Special care for special people!
Sight tests for under 16's and students under the age of 19 are funded by the NHS.
For the prescription of your child's spectacles to work as intended, the design and fit of the frame and the type of lenses selected are crucial.
Children are not miniature adults. The bridge of the nose and the areas around the eyes are still forming until early teens, so special frame designs and measurements are always required when fitting children's spectacles. Rest assured, however, as qualified opticians, this is all part of our training and the service your child receives at David Wood Opticians.
We stock Superheroes, Disney's Princess & Frozen, Batman v Superman frames as well as other designer ranges for children. You are welcome to come and browse our selection. Some of our frames and basic lenses are totally covered by the value of the NHS voucher.
We also have an extensive range of children's prescription sunglasses. This is an important consideration to protect against harmful UV radiation as kids grow.
We also have qualified staff in attendance at paediatric ophthalmic clinics at Broomfield MEHT Hospital, Braintree Community Hospital, and St Peter's Hospital Maldon, in order to provide a convenient on-site dispensing service for young children.
Children over the age of 7 are generally discharged from the Hospital Eye Service, after which they are welcome to attend our practice in Burnham on Crouch where they will receive an excellent level of care and a large range of frames from which they can choose.
