David Wood Opticians is a community based optical practice in the rural riverside town of Burnham on Crouch, Essex

We aim to meet the needs of our local community, as well as patients who travel longer distances to visit us. We strive for clinical excellence and to that end, both our professional and supporting staff are highly trained to provide you with the kind of service you would expect from a forward-thinking, independent practice.

West House is over 150 years old and has previously been a doctor's surgery and wool shop, but has been used as an opticians premises since the mid 1960s. The practice has been owned by David Wood for the last 30 years. The building has been renovated and refurbished by its current owner, the sohpisticated decor being chosen specifically to complement the age and style of this historic building. Our patients all say that they enjoy its comfortable and attractive ambience. It is a welcoming environment where our patients can receive a friendly and personal service.

Meet Our Friendly Team

The David Wood team

Our optometrists

Our optometrists are all highly skilled and registered with the General Optical Council. Several of them have been associated with this practice for many years, whilst others have joined us more recently to help address the increasing demand for our services. Working as a team we provide a full and comprehensive eyecare service.

Our dispensing opticians

We are a completely independently owned practice and whilst many of the large multiple optical outlets rely on unqualified supporting staff, all our dispensing opticians are fully qualified and registered with the General Optical Council. They have been trained not only in spectacle dispensing but also in the provision of aids for Low Vision and dispensing to children. They also provide contact lens instruction and are skilled in the repair of frames.

Our support staff

Our dedicated team of receptionists and dispensing assistants are always on hand to help you make appointments, answer queries and give you advice during your visit. They will assist you in the completion of forms so you derive maximum benefit from your NHS and other government entitlements.
